BACS Rainy Day Fund: Round 2!

As I'm sure y'all noticed, yesterday was indeed a rainy day. Only a handful of dogs had a visit with a volunteer yesterday in their kennel, and even less got to go for much needed walks. Volunteers worked to make KONGS for many of the dogs and passed out toys and blankets.

Due to wear and tear, we're running low again on KONGS and chew toys. Any contribution you could make to help keep our shelter dogs sane, healthy, and happy would be greatly appreciated.

I know you mainly have big dogs, but can you also use puppy kongs? I have two we're not really using, and also some stuffed bones.

Unfortunately, many of the KONGS that we purchased in the Fall with "rainy day fund" money we are not allowed to use in the kennels. Only KONGS/toys of a certain size can be used because there is a chance that the toy/KONG could go down the drain and block the pipe.

Any toy that is greater in width than a tennis ball shouldn't be used in the kennel.

HOWEVER, We would still be happy to accept any donation you are willing to make. Any smaller KONGS/toys can be used by the shelter's "office dogs".

Sam, would it be preferable for BACS to receive donations and then the shelter can use the funds to purchase toys and treats that we know are shelter-approved? Of course if people have items they're not using those can probably be donate and maybe we can use them, but it sounds like it might be better to donate $ as opposed to buying anything and giving those to the shelter.

Joel, that's a good idea, but when money is donated to the shelter, you can't earmark it for something in particular. Donations are used for whatever the greatest need is at the time, and right now, it is health care for the dogs and cats. Sam collaborates with Amelia to choose toys that are appropriate (won't get swallowed, stuck in the drain, etc.). Last time, Sam bought a treasure trove of awesome toys that the dogs enjoyed for months. It's just that now, we're running low . . .

I see...in that case is there a list of approved Kongs or other toys that could be posted?
